Newmachar Golf Club

Located less than ten miles from the city centre of Aberdeen, and Aberdeen International Airport, which offers daily flights to and from London, and to international destinations, Newmachar Golf Club is perfectly situated for golfers wishing to visit the North-East of Scotland. Home of two fantastic courses, the Hawkshill Championship Course & the Swailend Course, Newmachar Golf Club offers excellent heathland and parkland golfing options. Both courses were designed by renowned golf architect, Dave Thomas. Newmachar Golf Club hosts high quality practice facilities, which are open to visitors. Featuring a comfortable clubhouse, with two inviting lounge areas and views over the championship course, a warm welcome and great hospitality is guaranteed to visitors coming from across the world and closer to home. Quite simply, Newmachar Golf Club is a wonderful venue to play golf, when visiting the North-East of Scotland.

Hawkshill Championship Course: Designed by Dave Thomas, and opened for play in 1990, Hawkshill Championship Course is nestled among mature silver birch and Scots pine trees. With challenging water hazards and strategically placed bunkers on the fairways and at greenside, it offers one of the region’s most demanding tests of golf. The Hawkshill Championship Course is an eighteen hole, par 72 (men), par 73 (women), heathland track. It has tees ranging from 5,586 to 6,740 yards.

SGB Signature Hole: Name: Purgatory. Number: Hole 13. Measuring 357 yards (front) and 398 yards (back) from the tee, Purgatory is a true gem of a hole. The tee shot requires a drive to left side of the fairway, avoiding the fairway bunker and staying short of the water in view. With a sizeable water hazard hugging the right side of the hole and next to the green, the approach is not for the faint hearted. Play this hole poorly and you may remain in a state of suffering, until the completion of your round.

Swailend Course: opened for play in June 1997, and also designed by Dave Thomas, Swailend Course is set on parkland. While it is more forgiving than the Hawkshill Course, with wider fairways, its subtle contours and well-placed bunkers offer a challenge that golfers of all skill levels should not underestimate. The Swailend Course is an eighteen hole, par 72 (men & women), track. It has tees ranging from 5,606 to 6,323 yards.

The clubhouse has a restaurant, ‘The Alba’, where visitors can enjoy delicious cuisine in a warm and friendly setting. (see food and dining section).
