Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club is located on the outskirts of Troon, on the Ayrshire golf coast of Scotland. Established in 1887, the club moved from the town of Kilmarnock to its present location during the 1890s. The club offers twenty-seven wonderful links holes to club members and visitors alike. Due to its coastal situation and links-land terrain, this venue is playable throughout the whole year.
The eighteen hole championship course known as 'The Barassie Links' and the nine hole layout named 'The Hillhouse' offer quality links golf and the venue is frequently used by the R&A for premier events on the international golf calendar. Working to satisfy exacting criteria set by the R&A has the benefit of ensuring that the golf course is presented to the highest standard, all year round.
'The Barassie Links' was developed in the early 1990’s and is formed from nine of the original/traditional holes played at Barassie and from nine new holes. The links is an eighteen hole, par 72 (men), par 75 (women), championship course. The course has tees ranging from 6,094 to 6,852 yards. The course offers a picturesque and challenging links test for golfers and it has a well-deserved reputation for having some of the best maintained greens in Scotland. The course boasts a number of signature holes amongst its par 3s, with the pick of the bunch possibly being hole number four. Measuring between 149 and 155 yards, with a burn running down its entire length, on the left hand side, and only yards from the narrow green, the tee shot on this hole requires accuracy if you hope to achieve a par. In its recent history the course has played host to Final Open Qualifying, The Junior Open, R&A Boys Amateur and most recently R&A Women’s Amateur Championship. Come and test yourself on this Ayrshire gem.
'The Hillhouse' course consists of nine holes. It is a par 34 for men & women. The Hillhouse has tees ranging from 2,495 to 2,888 yards. The course is formed from nine of the original/traditional holes played at Barassie. Sitting amongst the links-land, and close to the railway line from Ayr to Glasgow, it is a true test of golf and has some of the finest holes in Ayrshire.
