Set in the heart of Royal Deeside, beside the picturesque Aboyne Loch and surrounded by beautiful Highland scenery, Aboyne Golf Club is one of Aberdeenshire’s finest inland golfing destinations. The eighteen-hole course combines tree-lined parkland with elevated heathland, creating a varied and memorable challenge for golfers of every ability. Spectacular views across the Dee Valley, excellent conditioning, welcoming Scottish hospitality and first-class visitor facilities have earned the club an outstanding reputation throughout the region.
History: Golf has been played in Aboyne since 1874, with the club formally established in 1883. The course moved to its present location beside Aboyne Loch in 1905, before expanding to eighteen holes in 1908. Renowned architect Martin Hawtree later introduced additional holes, enhancing today’s highly regarded championship layout. The course at Aboyne Golf Club is an eighteen hole, par 68 (men), par 72/74 (women), track. It has tees ranging from 5,362 to 6,003 yards.
The Course: Aboyne’s eighteen-hole course offers an engaging contrast between a gently undulating parkland front nine and a more rugged heathland inward nine. Mature trees, water hazards, rolling fairways and historic ridge-and-furrow terrain demand thoughtful course management, while free-draining ground ensures excellent playing conditions throughout much of the golfing season.
SGB Signature Hole: Hole 18. Name. Hame. Measuring 215 yards (W) and 230 yards (M) from the tee, this long par 3/ short par 4 provides a memorable conclusion to the round. The tee shot demands accuracy under pressure. The green is guarded by bunkers at the front left and right. This hole perfectly showcases the course’s natural beauty and strategic design.
Clubhouse, Professional Shop & Practice Facilities: The clubhouse enjoys panoramic views across Royal Deeside and Aboyne Loch, offering comfortable lounges, a bar, a restaurant, changing facilities and locker rooms. Professional Shop: The well-stocked professional shop provides equipment, clothing, custom fitting, tuition and club hire. Practice Facilities: The club offers a practice putting green.
