Situated on the outskirts of Dundee, Downfield Golf Club is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s finest parkland courses. Set amongst mature woodland, the championship layout combines tree-lined fairways, natural wildlife and a challenging test for golfers of all abilities. Located only thirty minutes from St Andrews and Carnoustie, Downfield enjoys an enviable position and has built an outstanding reputation for hosting visitors, prestigious championships and major qualifying events.
History: Established in 1895, Downfield Golf Club originally occupied a nine-hole course before being re-established in 1932. Redesigned by James Braid, the present layout has hosted the inaugural Scottish Open, Open Championship qualifying and Senior Open qualifying. Paul Lawrie famously qualified here, before winning The Open Championship at Carnoustie, in 1999.
The Championship Course: Downfield’s eighteen-hole championship parkland course is renowned for its immaculate conditioning, majestic woodland setting and strategic design. Water comes into play on seven holes, while multiple teeing areas ensure an enjoyable challenge for every standard of golfer. The demanding layout rewards accurate driving and thoughtful course management throughout the round. The course at Downfield Golf Club is an eighteen hole, par 73 (men), par 70/ 74 (women), track. It has tees ranging from 5,746 to 6,800 yards.
SGB Signature Hole: Hole 18. Name. Journey’s End. Measuring 313 yards (W) and 385 yards (M) from the tee, the memorable finishing hole perfectly captures the quality of Downfield Golf Club. Framed by mature trees and leading directly towards the welcoming clubhouse, this par 4, dog-leg right hole, demands a precise drive and a carefully judged approach shot to a green protected by three bunkers. A strong finish is richly rewarded, and this fine hole provides a fitting conclusion to a round on one of Scotland’s finest parkland courses.
Clubhouse, Professional Shop & Practice Facilities: Downfield’s welcoming clubhouse provides excellent hospitality, dining, changing facilities and a relaxing setting to enjoy, before or after a round of golf golf.
