Montrose Golf Links

Situated on Scotland’s spectacular Angus coastline, Montrose Golf Links is one of the world’s oldest golf courses and home to outstanding traditional links golf. Combining rich golfing heritage, exceptional year-round conditioning and breath-taking views across the North Sea, the venue offers an unforgettable experience for golfers of every ability. Featuring the renowned 1562 Course and a second course, the Broomfield Links, Montrose provides a true test of links golf, and is complemented by excellent practice facilities and a welcoming clubhouse.

History: Recognised as the fifth oldest golf course in the world, golf has been played at Montrose since 1562. The championship links has evolved over centuries, while preserving its historic character. The current layout has benefitted from the influence of notable golf architects, establishing Montrose as one of Scotland’s most respected traditional links venues.

The Championship Course: The 1562 Course features natural undulating fairways, deep bunkers, firm running turf and ever-changing coastal winds. It demands strategic golf. Exceptional conditioning, panoramic sea views and a classic out-and-back layout create a memorable challenge, that can be played throughout the year. The 1562 Course at Montrose Golf Links is an eighteen hole, par 71 (men), par 73 (women), track. It has tees ranging from 5,622 to 6,585 yards.

SGB Signature Hole. Number 5. Name. Hillock. Measuring 226 yards (W) and 291 yards (M) from the tee, this demanding par 4 captures everything that defines Montrose Golf Links. A real risk and reward hole, where a good tee shot will carry the slope to the top. If not, a blind approach is required to a large flat green. If you decide to take on the green from the tee, a deep greenside pot bunker awaits to your left... if you lay up, then there is a bunker 53 yards from the green, on the right, which must be avoided. Bravery here will yield a birdie, but will you take the risk?

The Broomfield Course: The perfect accompaniment to the 1562 Course, Broomfield offers a shorter links course, with challenging fairways and small greens that require a delicate touch. The Broomfield at Montrose Golf Links is an eighteen hole, par 67, track. It is 4,771 yards in length .

Clubhouses, Professional Shop & Practice Facilities: Montrose Links is home to two clubs, Montrose Caledonia and Royal Montrose Mercantile Golf Club. Both of which have clubhouses, with comfortable changing facilities, restaurants and bars overlooking the links, and a warm Scottish welcome. Professional Shop: The professional shop stocks leading golf brands and offers club, trolley and buggy hire. Practice Facilities:  Practice facilities include a driving range, a short game area and a putting green.
