The Captain's pick

In early May 2026, 52 golfers travelled from Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire to Craigielaw. A Captain’s weekend away some 18 months in the planning could not have gone any better thanks to the organisation of Scottish Golf Breaks.

The professional, positive, communication made the planning to the actual trip seamless. The accommodation at Craigielaw was excellent, not one single moan from our members, it provided hearty food with excellent staff.

We had the pleasure of playing Kilspindie, short in yards but miles long in history and authentic Scottish Golf, presented in the most excellent condition, a true links test.

36 holes over the weekend at Craigielaw provided a different test, a course much longer with large sloping greens a tough test for any standard of golfer.

Jonathan Stanger had an amazing hole in one on the 17th. It was the cream on the top of our fabulous trip away.

SGB provided a golf weekend from a golfers perspective not a hotel that arranges golf, clearly run by golfers who know what golfers want. We would defiantly use SGB again for our north of the border travel. Don’t hesitate to call for a true golfers insight into how a break should be done. You will get honesty and be surprised at the pricing.

Craigielaw & Kilspndie

We had a great time, thank you. Craigielaw accommodation was excellent, all the staff were very accommodating and Barbara was very welcoming on arrival. The food was great, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choices. The rooms were super with a top notch view! The courses were great, the 4/5 club head on wind on the back 9 of Craigielaw on Saturday afternoon was exhausting and challenging but we still had fun with it. Sunday at Kilspindie was super, lovely course, all the staff there were equally welcoming. Definitely the right way round to play the courses, think we all appreciated Kilspindie being that wee bit shorter. The weather was definitely on our side & the views were grand, We even got to see some seals. Thank you very much for organizing us a great trip.

East Lothian: The Lodge @ Craigielaw, Craigielaw G. C. & The Glen G. C.

Just returned from our golf trip, a big thank you to SGB for organising a great weekend. The accommodation at Craigielaw Lodge was exemplary, staff couldn’t do enough, setting magnificent and both courses faultless. Got lucky with the weather too.

We had a fantastic weekend, thank you! The golf was great, despite the wind on Saturday, and the accommodation was spot on. Everyone was extremely impressed with the organisation from Scottish Golf Breaks and the value for money. We’ll certainly come back to you when we’re planning another trip northwards!

The Golf Coast - East Lothian: The Lodge @ Craigielaw, Dunbar, Craigielaw & Kilspindie

Overall we really appreciated the service. You made this super easy. We literally just showed up and everything was booked in and sorted. It could not have been easier. I will absolutely use Scottish Golf Breaks again.

We had a great time, great trip. The lodge at Craigielaw was great, easy to get in and navigate and the food was good as well. Rooms were spacious and the staff were courteous.

As to the courses;

Dunbar was my favourite. Definitely can’t wait to play there again. It might be my favourite course ever. Loved the feel, kind of embedded in the community there and it was really fun to play. Kilspindie was also really great. Very cool layout and was fun to play right there on the water for most of the round.

Everything was great! Firstly, the booking. You were very quick to respond and with the personal touch. Your attention to what we were after and contact with myself and the course was excellent. All the arrangements (tee time, accommodation etc.) were spot on. The hotel was perfect. The staff were very welcoming and even had the rooms ready for 11 am. The rooms were excellent; large, spotless, with a great view over the golf course. Couldn’t have been better. The course condition was excellent, especially for the time of year. The greens were excellent, with normal tees and fairways in operation too. Craigielaw is a challenging course that everyone should look to play. The views across to Gullane and Fife were great. We could even see the bridges across the Forth. The practice facilities were very good. In addition, they have a 6-hole par 3 course that was excellent and again everyone should try it.

The hotel and staff were fantastic, food great and we were very well looked after especially at the bar. Everyone enjoyed the courses which were both in extremely good condition and again were well looked after by staff. Thanks for your help.

East Lothian Tour: Craigielaw, Dunbar, Gullane, The Glen and Kilspindie

The whole group would like to say a big thank you for your ability to take a request and turn it into a golf trip that was exactly like what we had in mind. It ran like clockwork from beginning to end, and if we or other groups from our club want a trip to Scotland we will be recommending Scottish Golf Breaks.
