The historical influence and importance St Andrews and Fife are integral to the game. However, the area is also home to many modern masterpieces of golf course design. Courses which have been built with meticulous detail, using natural links land, a greater understanding of golf architecture and the infrastructure required to satisfy today’s modern golfer. We'll call these courses 'Generation Z'.
They include Kingsbarns which has only been open since 2000, when Kyle Phillips turned a piece of former farmland into a majestic seaside links, with many people believing that it has been there since time immemorial.
It’s hard to believe that the Clive Clark designed Dumbarnie Links, with its wide fairways, wonderful scenery and its huge playability, only opened in 2020.
While the fabulous courses at The Fairmont St Andrews, the Kittocks and Torrance, were both completed in the 21st century. The latter opened in 2001, and was designed by legendary Scottish golfer Sam Torrance. The course has played host numerous high-profile events, such as Open qualifying in 2010, six Senior European tour events and most recently The Scottish Championship in 2020.
Established in 2008, the Castle Course is the newest addition to the portfolio at St Andrews Links Trust, becoming the seventh course at the Home of Golf.
