Craigielaw Golf Club

Craigielaw Golf Club is located near the village of Aberlady, East Lothian. The club is situated on the Firth of Forth, approximately twenty miles east of Edinburgh. Officially opened in 2001, Craigielaw Golf Club is a fabulous stay and play venue, and has quickly become one of the most popular golf courses in Scotland, attracting players from all over the world. The championship links course offers a spectacular challenge, and was designed in a way that takes advantage of the natural features of the land. The course cleverly showcases picturesque vistas of rolling hills, and the sea across Aberlady Bay. Craigielaw Golf Club offers elegant accommodation options in The Lodge at Craigielaw, fine & relaxed dining opportunities and state of the art practice facilities, which are open to visitors.

History: Craigielaw Golf Club is home to a relatively new golf course, having been established in 2001. The land on which Craigielaw Golf Club now stands was originally part of the estate of the Earl of Wemyss. The estate was previously used for farming and grazing. The Wemyss family’s decision to diversify the estate land from more traditional businesses into golf and tourism led them to enlist Donald Steel, a renowned golf course architect who has designed courses all over the world, to support them bring their vision to life. Construction of the course began in the late 1990s, and it was officially opened in 2001. In addition to the golf course, a clubhouse was designed and constructed to blend in with the surrounding landscape.

Craigielaw Golf Club offers a wonderful eighteen hole championship links course that has hosted a number of prestigious golf tournaments, including the Scottish Amateur Strokeplay Championship, and the Scottish Senior Open. Craigielaw has challenging, undulating greens, cavernous bunkers and draws inspiration from the great links courses of Britain, particularly those on land which are less dominated by dunes. Affording spectacular views over the Firth of Forth, Gullane Hill and out towards Edinburgh and Fife, a round at Craigielaw Golf Club is an experience not to be missed. The course is an eighteen hole, par 71 (men), par 71 (women), track. It has tees ranging from 5,371 to 6,601 yards.

SGB Signature Hole: Name: The Buchts. Number: Hole 12. Measuring 378 yards (W) and 445 yards (M) from the tee, this par 4 is an outstanding dogleg left hole. Like the farmers before you, who worked this land, it's your job as a golfing Sheppard to drive your ball accurately between the walls that border the fairway on either side and steer your golfing flock towards, The Buchts or Sheep Pen, that we'll call the green, and milk out a birdie or a well earned par. This hole is best suited to a draw shot from the tee and if you hold the fairway, a mid-iron avoiding a bunker at the front right will see you safely on to the green.

Clubhouse & Practice facilities: The beautifully designed clubhouse at Craigielaw Golf Club offers wonderful views across the Firth of Forth. Within, visitors will find modern locker rooms and changing facilities, a fully stocked professional shop, offering a wide range of clubs, clothing, and hire options, and a restaurant and bar (see food and dining section). Practice facilities: The driving range at Craigielaw Golf Club offers fully grassed tee-off areas and is equipped with high-quality range balls. The club has a six hole par 3 course named, 'The South Links' and a short game area, designed to help golfers improve their chipping, pitching, and bunker play. In addition, there is a practice putting green. Practice facilities are open to visitors. The Golf Academy at Craigielaw Golf Club offers a range of coaching programmes for golfers of all levels. The academy is staffed by PGA professionals who use the latest technology and best teaching techniques to help golfers improve their game. Custom club fitting is also available onsite at the Titleist National Fitting Studio.

The rooms are designed with the golfer in mind. Bright and airy, the bedrooms look over the golf course and a decorative courtyard.
